What makes Paris so special? Paris and its "snail-shell" construction...Getting lost in Paris is always an opportunity to discover a new face of the city; it is rare to find another place with such a social mix where you can feel in a small village, and in a megapole, at the same time.
Paris is an opened air museum, full of literary and historical references, inexhaustible like a classic.
Whatever is your experience of Paris, its emotional baggage makes you live it intensively: you walk, you "embrasse" (means "embrace" but also "kiss" in french), you enjoy and relish both literally and figuratively.
We only have 24 hours in Paris, where would you take us? Three fundamental ingredients: good food, walking the best areas, and visit two essential museums.
After you arrive in Paris, just in time for lunch, go to the 7th district and eat at the typical French Bistrot L'Ami Jean; in the same area you will enjoy a closer view of the Tour Eiffel, visible from thousands of spots in Paris but the final destination in that area could be the Musée Rodin which has an astonishing garden (better during sunny days). Then I would spend the afternoon in Saint Germain des Pres. Walking from the 7th to St Germain, i would stop at la grande epicerie de paris. Get lost in St Germain to discover its small streets, fontaine st michel, eglise saint sulpice and a stop at la Cremerie for a coffee and sweet unless you decide it is happy hour time and there are two solutions: You want to combine it with culture so you walk on pont des arts to go and visit the louvre then you drink a glass of wine in the area. Or you have a very nice walk from st germain with final destination for the night in le marais walking through the quartier latin and seeing the oldest tree of paris (rene-viviani square). You will have to walk then through ile de la cite where you will see notre dame go then to ile saint louis to arrive at the rive droite of the city. Walk through St gervais area of the marais which is magical then stay in the marais for the night.
Dont forget to have lunch the day after at le marché des Enfants rouges in the oldest market of Paris: try the Libanese traiteur for a quick trip to Beirut and come back.
Walk in the north of the marais and go to le jardin des archives nationales a mini versailles in the marais.
You can then decide to have a tea at mariage freres or le loire dans la theiere to digest the lebanese food, then walk to place des vosges or experiment the afternoon in another exciting area: montmartre..
Favorite place for coffee? Any terraces of bistrot in st germain or le marais or other key areas are the best spots to have a cafe creme even during the winter
Favorite place to shop? For clothes: Springsioux for leather clothes and young designers, L'eclaireur, both in le marais; le Bon Marché rive gauche. For second hand go to the flea market of clignancourt, nice furniture and particular pieces
Favorite weekend getaway outside of Paris? Take a train to london.
What is on your stereo? Depends on my mood, I live with music. From oldies like Gangs of four, Pulp, David Bowie...to different band style like future islands, connan mockasin, darkside.
Words you live by... Life is happening now.
