The story of the estate. São Lourenço do Barrocal has been in the same family for more than 200 years, and it was José António Uva (who is eight generation of the same family) who had a vision to turn the family property into a farm retreat he could share with others. The passion and dedication behind José António’s dream, and what he has created, is incredibly inspiring.

The interiors. Perfectly simple and calming. The interior design was led by José António’s wife Ana’s design studio, AnahoryAlmeida (also responsible for the interiors of many of Lisbon’s finest restaurants) and it is a dream.

Hortelão, their outdoor restaurant. The most beautiful place to dine between Spring through Autumn, this slow-food, farm to fork restaurant is located next to the pool, right by the organic kitchen garden, and is the perfect place to enjoy a dinner under the stars.
Babar House
BABAR HOUSE
NOOSA HEADS, QUEENSLAND • BEACH HOUSE • SLEEPS 6 | 3 BEDROOM | 3 BATH
Babar House is a beautiful beach house on the hill in Noosa Heads that feels more like a boutique hotel than a holiday house. Designed by interior dream woman, Anna Spiro, and located at the entrance to the Noosa National Park, with easy access to its beautiful walking tracks, Babar House makes the perfect base for your Noosa holiday.
With three big bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a lovely sized living room, tv nook, and kitchen, there is plenty of room to accommodate the whole family. A lovely swimming pool overlooks the lush green National Park, and there are sun lounges, and an outdoor dining table, giving you plenty of opportunities to enjoy this beautiful nature setting. Styled by the incomparable Anna Spiro, Babar’s interior is not your typical accommodation experience. Bold colour and mix-matched patterns and prints mean entering Babar House is like being transported into some different kind of universe.
It's very beautiful here.
Why I love it
I love this beautiful beach house. Quite unassuming from the outside, walking in you are teleported to a world of bold colour, pattern and print. The interior design (by Anna Spiro) is sumptuous. Babar House feels more like a boutique hotel than a holiday house. I love all the little references to Babar himself. I also love the main bedroom upstairs with its ensuite bathroom, little balcony, and view over the pool and National Park. The bed is ridiculously comfortable and the linen is beautiful. The location is amazing - you can walk into the National Park in no time (and up to the Laguna Lookout), or down to Hastings Street and the beach (about 15-20mins). The kitchen is equipped with everything you need and its a lovely place to cook.
Babar House offers a wonderfully relaxed and beautiful setting from which to enjoy your Noosa holiday.
About the owners
Owned and managed by a mother and her two daughters, Babar House was designed for relaxed retreats with family and friends. Originating from Darwin, the family would visit Noosa at every opportunity, until finally the chance came to relocate to the idyllical coastal town 11 years ago.
"While we love the Darwin heat, during the build-up to the wet season, we would find ourselves dreaming about dips in the ocean (…although Darwin has a beautiful harbour it is always best not to make close friends with the crocs). As kids, Mum would read us pages of the adventures of a young elephant named Babar, and so our affinity with elephants began, and years later Babar House was born. We hope visitors to Babar House will feel a similar sense of joy and wonderment during their stay, as we did within the pages of Babar’s tales."
