Spotlight on Melbourne.

Local insider interview with Seala Lokollo, Artist / Co-Founder of Mōri Market.

Seala and I met in Melbourne earlier this year in my favourite store, Lucy Folk. Seala was working there at the time. We got chatting about her craft and I fell in love with her ethos and beautiful artistry - both in her jewellery and her ceramics. It is an honour to feature the very lovely Seala here on these pages, and all her favourite tips for her adopted-hometown of Melbourne.

Name: Seala Lokollo

Star Sign: Aries

Hometown: Byron Bay, Australia.

When and why did you move to Melbourne?

In 2011. I wanted to experience a big city, I had spent my whole life within the Byron Shire ( quiet beach/country life living) - I stayed for the beautiful people I have met along the way and the supportive art/ design community that thrives here in Melbourne/ Naarm.

Describe yourself in 3 words or less...

Inspired, always.

Describe Melbourne in 3 words or less...

Creative, supportive, busy.

What inspires you here? The vast variety of people and talent. Someone is always doing something new and exciting.

Tell us a little about your craft...

I studied Fine Arts at university, my practice currently includes sculptural clay works and wearable metal objects. I also run Mōri Market, a online recycled/ vintage store with my best friend and business partner Wave via instagram.

What does a normal day look like for you?

I work from home/ my studio both in Brunswick so I am normally jumping between projects all day. I get up, walk down to the local cafe for coffee and head back to either make my rings and pendants at my home studio or shoot for Mōri Market. Around lunch time I'll head to my clay studio and spend the afternoon there creating and getting dirty. One of my favourite times in my day.
